How do you know a new treat is a hit? For me, it’s when everyone argues over the last piece.
We’re a family of eight, so I usually double or triple recipes. This time I had only one lonely Rice Krispie treat left when I decided to try these pops—probably not my wisest parenting move.
I promised to make a full batch soon, but that didn’t calm anyone down. If I hadn’t been on a diet, I might have savored it in front of them just to be a little mean. Yes, I’m that petty.
These pops are incredibly simple and highly adaptable. Use any toppings you like, swap dark chocolate for white, or choose different candies and nuts. They’re perfect for kids’ parties, holiday treats, or a quick homemade dessert.

Ingredients
Scale
- 1 batch of Rice Krispie treats (homemade or store-bought)
- Popsicle sticks
- 1 bag chocolate chips (semi-sweet recommended, but any kind works)
- 1 tbsp vegetable shortening
- Toppings: mini M&M’s, nuts, sprinkles, toffee, crushed Oreos, Reese’s pieces, Skittles, etc.
Instructions
- Cut the Rice Krispie treats into small rectangles and insert a popsicle stick into each piece. If you make the treats from scratch, allow them to cool and set completely so they’re firm enough for the stick.
- In a medium microwave-safe bowl, melt the chocolate chips with the shortening in 30-second intervals, stirring between each interval until smooth. If the chocolate is too thick for dipping, add a little more shortening to thin it.
- Use a spoon or dip the pop into the melted chocolate to coat it. Place coated pops on wax paper and sprinkle with your chosen toppings before the chocolate sets. Refrigerate briefly to speed up hardening if desired.
