The holiday season is here and Cranberry Bliss Bars—Starbucks’ beloved seasonal treat—are easy to make at home. These bars feature a soft, chewy blondie base studded with white chocolate and tart dried cranberries, finished with a tangy orange-scented cream cheese frosting and a white chocolate drizzle.
The combination of flavors and textures makes these bars a favorite for holiday gatherings. They’re simple to prepare and impressive on a dessert tray.
What are cranberry bliss bars?
- These bars pair tart dried cranberries with sweet white chocolate and a hint of orange zest in a moist blondie base.
- They’re topped with an orange-scented cream cheese frosting, more cranberries, and a white chocolate drizzle for a festive finish.

Why this recipe works
These bars are loved for their balance of flavor, texture, and festive appeal. Key reasons they work so well:
- Sweet and tart balance: White chocolate and the blondie base provide sweetness, while dried cranberries add bright tartness that keeps each bite interesting.
- Creamy and chewy texture: A chewy blondie base contrasts with the smooth cream cheese frosting for a satisfying mouthfeel.
- Layered flavors: Rubbing orange zest into the sugar releases citrus oils and intensifies the orange note, which complements both cranberries and white chocolate.
- Holiday vibes: Cranberries and orange make these bars feel seasonal and special—perfect for gatherings or gifting.
- Visual appeal: The red cranberries against creamy frosting and a white chocolate drizzle create an inviting, festive look.

Serve these homemade Cranberry Bliss Bars with coffee, tea, or a holiday latte for a memorable treat.
Ingredient Notes
For the full ingredient list and exact measurements see the recipe card below (jump to the Recipe section).

- Butter: Use unsalted butter melted and slightly cooled. It adds richness and helps create the blondie’s chewy texture.
- Brown sugar: Dark or light brown sugar works; the molasses adds moisture and a caramel note.
- Eggs: Provide structure and moisture.
- Flour: All-purpose flour gives the bars their structure; gluten-free flour has not been tested.
- Baking powder: Light leavening keeps the bars tender.
- Dried cranberries: Add tartness and chew.
- White chocolate: Use good-quality white chocolate chips for best flavor.
- Orange zest: Fresh zest brightens the flavor—rub it into the sugar to release oils.
- Cream cheese: Softened full-fat cream cheese makes a smooth, tangy frosting.
Step by Step Directions
Full instructions are in the recipe card below. Summary of the process:

- Prepare the base: Rub orange zest into the granulated sugar, whisk with brown sugar, then add melted butter. Mix in eggs and vanilla, then fold in the dry ingredients and finally the cranberries and white chocolate chips.
- Bake: Press the batter into a lined 9×13-inch pan and bake until golden and set.
- Frosting: Once the bars are completely cool, spread an orange-scented cream cheese frosting over the top. Drizzle with melted white chocolate and sprinkle chopped dried cranberries and extra zest.
- Slice and serve: Cut into bars or triangles and enjoy.

Expert Tips
- Use quality ingredients: Good white chocolate and fresh dried cranberries improve flavor.
- Don’t overmix: Stir dry ingredients in just until combined to keep the bars tender.
- Bake evenly: Spread batter flat in the pan so it bakes uniformly.
- Avoid overbaking: Remove when the top is golden and a toothpick shows a few crumbs; bars will set as they cool.
- Fresh zest: Grate zest just before using for the brightest citrus aroma.
- Softened cream cheese: Bring cream cheese to room temperature for a smooth frosting.
- Cool completely: Frost only after the bars are fully cooled to prevent the frosting from melting.

- Parchment paper: Line the pan for easy removal and neater slices.
- Chill before cutting: Refrigerate the frosted bars for 30 minutes for clean edges, then slice with a sharp knife.
- Garnish timing: Add chopped cranberries before the drizzle sets so they stick.
- Storage: Store in the fridge because of the cream cheese frosting; bars are best at room temperature, so pull them out about 30 minutes before serving.

Variations & Substitutions
- Different berries: Swap dried cranberries for dried blueberries, cherries, or golden raisins.
- Chocolate options: Use dark or milk chocolate chips instead of white chocolate for a deeper flavor.
- Nuts: Add chopped pecans, walnuts, or almonds for crunch.
- Other citrus: Try lemon or lime zest in place of orange for a different bright note.
- Spices: Add cardamom, nutmeg, or ginger for a warm, spiced twist.
- Coffee drizzle: Mix a little strong coffee with melted chocolate for a coffee-flavored topping.
- Vegan option: Try vegan butter, a flax or chia egg replacer, vegan white chocolate, and vegan cream cheese to make these dairy- and egg-free (not personally tested).

Storage and Freezing
Because the frosting contains cream cheese, refrigerate the bars if they won’t be eaten right away. Let chilled or frozen bars come to room temperature before serving for the best flavor and texture.
- Short term: If serving within a few hours, bars can be kept at room temperature.
- Long term: In an airtight container, bars keep up to a week in the refrigerator.
- Freezing: Freeze individual bars on a baking sheet until firm, then layer with parchment paper in an airtight container. Freeze up to 2–3 months. Thaw overnight in the fridge or a few hours at room temperature.

Instructions
-
Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a 9×13-inch baking dish with parchment paper.
-
Combine granulated sugar and orange zest, rubbing them together to release the oils and infuse the sugar with orange flavor.
-
Add brown sugar and mix. Pour in melted butter and whisk until a cohesive paste forms, about 1 minute.
-
Whisk in eggs and vanilla until combined.
-
Stir in dry ingredients (flour, baking powder, cornstarch, salt, and cinnamon) just until combined. The batter will be thick.
-
Fold in white chocolate chips and dried cranberries.
-
Spread batter evenly in the prepared pan and bake 23–25 minutes or until golden and a toothpick comes out mostly clean. Cool completely.
-
Melt white chocolate chips with coconut oil until smooth. Beat cream cheese, powdered sugar, and orange zest until smooth, then mix in half of the melted white chocolate.
-
Spread frosting over cooled bars. Sprinkle chopped dried cranberries on top and drizzle with remaining melted white chocolate. Add extra orange zest if desired.
-
Allow the white chocolate to set. For neat slices, refrigerate the frosted bars for about 30 minutes, then cut with a sharp knife and serve.
Notes
- Storage: Because of the cream cheese frosting, refrigerate leftovers. Short-term, bars can sit at room temperature for a few hours. In an airtight container they keep up to a week in the fridge.
- Freezing: Freeze individual bars on a baking sheet until firm, then store in an airtight container with parchment between layers for up to 2–3 months. Thaw in the fridge overnight or at room temperature for a few hours.
