I love making hot cocoa during the colder months. Around the holidays, there’s nothing better than a warm mug of homemade hot cocoa while watching a favorite Christmas movie.
When we ran out of boxed powdered mix, I discovered how simple and much tastier homemade hot cocoa can be. It only takes three ingredients and a few minutes on the stove.

Easy Homemade Hot Cocoa
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips (regular or white chocolate)
- 2 cups DairyPure milk
- 1/4 tsp vanilla
- Marshmallows (optional but encouraged)
Prep time: 1 minute | Total time: 5 minutes

Instructions: In a small saucepan over low to medium heat, combine the chocolate chips and milk. Stir constantly until the chocolate is fully melted and the mixture is smooth. Remove the pan from the heat, stir in the vanilla, and let the cocoa rest for a minute to cool slightly.
Pour into mugs, top with marshmallows if you like, and enjoy.

We choose DairyPure milk because it comes from cows fed a healthy diet, is cold-shipped from local dairies, and is subject to regular quality testing to ensure purity. Their milk is also tested for antibiotics, which is important to me when serving it to my children.
