Good morning, friends!
As I mentioned yesterday, I finally have a wedding planning update to share. I stepped away from planning for about three months because life got very busy — I was studying for and taking comprehensive exams, finishing grad school coursework, taking regular exams, packing up and moving from North Carolina to Washington, DC, settling in, and starting my hospital internship. Now that we’re back in DC, I’m ready to get wedding preparations moving again. Our wedding is in October (here’s our engagement story if you missed it), and I can’t believe it’s only about four months away!

If you’re new here and want to read more about the planning process, check the wedding tab — all previous wedding-related posts are collected there.

On Saturday I spent a couple of hours at the mall shoe shopping with my BFF and maid of honor, Jenny. We had a lot of fun trying on countless styles and heel heights.
These flats caught our eye — they’d be perfect to change into later for dancing, though flip-flops would be great too.

We also found a really cute pair with kitten heels that might be ideal for the rehearsal. Note to self: paint toenails before the next shoe shopping trip!

Here are a few other pairs I tried on during the outing.

Because I had my first dress fitting right after shoe shopping and the stores offered free returns, I bought three pairs to try with the dress — it’s hard to judge what will look best without seeing the dress together. Once I tried the dress on, there was a clear favorite for me, my mom, and Jenny.

They’re even prettier in person — shimmery and flattering — and we all fell in love with them. Now I’m debating the heel height. They’re nearly five inches, though the front platform reduces the effective height. Since our wedding will be outdoors on grass, I’m torn: should I play it safe with a lower heel, or go for the taller, more dramatic option? If you’re married, what heel height did you choose for your wedding day, and how did it work out? I’m trying to decide whether to prioritize comfort and stability or to go bold.
And no, I don’t have photos of the dress yet — the suspense continues!
Have a great day! Next on the planning list is choosing invitations. I’ll share details as we make decisions.
